El Chorro Gorge
A mere 20 minutes from Finca Leria is one of the area's natural wonders, the deep rugged canyon of the Rio Guadalhorce, known as the Garganta del Chorro (El Chorro gorge). Absolutely breaktaking scenery awaits you when you undertake this trip.
El Chorro
This trip can be completed in around two hours - and we recommend early morning or late afternoons if you do it in the hot summer months. Driving North from the Finca, for about 20 minutes, you will come to the dam at El Chorro. Follow signs for Camping El Chorro, across the dam and keep going past the entrance to the camp site, until you reach a small car park. Leave your car, and on foot, take the track leading upwards out of the car park. Soon you will get a great view of the gorge, and a green railway bridge which may seem familiar to you. It was used in one of the scenes in Von Ryans Express.
Along the wall of the gorge you will see a dilapidated wooden walkway - very scary! This is the Camino Del Rey (Kings Pathway) - named after it was walked by Alfonso X111 in 1921 when he opened the Conde Del Guadalhorce Dam. It has been closed now for some-time, after part of it collapsed, although there is talk of a restoration budget.
If you are still feeling active, why not continue with a trip to Bobastro (outing number 7) and/or The Lakes (outing number 3).
The wonderful and impressive mountain range and of course the bridge. If you are interested in water dams, then El Chorro is also for you!
