El Torcal
This trip can be combined with Teba, allow half a day for visiting both.
El Torcal is a nature reserve which contains weard and spectacular rock formations. It's also great for walking and bird watching.
El Torcal
Located just south of Antequera, El Torcal is well worth a visit for a pre-historic atmosphere. Set in over 2,000 hectares (eight square miles) it is dominated by a 1,369 mountain that has been gnarled, serrated, splintered and fractured over approximately 150 million years to create weard shaped calveous rock formations. The whole area was under sea until one hundred million years ago. Then the violent movements of the Earth's crust forced it upward into hills and mountains up to 1,300m, the limestone still kept its layered horizontal formation.
The 1.4m Ruta Verde walk starts and ends at the visitors' centre and is marked by green posts.
To reach the heart of the park it is possible to drive up to 1,100m above sea level along a good access road into the park. This is signed from C3310 between Antequera and Villaneuva de la Concepcion.
Total driving time from Finca Leria: 50 minutes
